I found it fascinating the way people described how they react to feedback on entities they are emotionally attached to! This was invaluable for one of the projects we are in the process of developing - Thank you Victor for doing what you do, and please keep up the good work!

Re: My new Podcast “Rangefinder Moment” is out

Just finished listening! Thought I'd add my .02 (that and $2 will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks). If people want to try out Aperture and still have the photos available for use with Lightroom to compare them this makes it pretty easy. It also means you don't have to give up control to Aperture completely if that doesn't make you comfortable.

I use Aperture with the Referenced Library. Here's what I do for each year:

Open new library for that year call it "Aperture Library 2012"
In finder on my mac (or whichever drive you want to store the photos!) I create a folder called

Photos 2012

Under that folder I create a folder for each month

Jan 2012
Feb 2012... etc

Then as I upload photos I create another subfolder under each month and that is where the originals live. So, if I went to Boston in January and took a bunch of pics on the 15th of that month that folder would be named:

Boston photos 1-15-2012

and it would be in the January folder. I would create that folder first then:

In Aperture I would create a folder for each month exactly as above (Jan 2012). Next, for the above mentioned photos, I would create a project in the January folder that is named exactly like the finder folder (Boston photos 1-15-2012). You have to make sure when you import that you point aperture to the correct folder in finder (it won't prompt you!). It's at the top of the import dialog - just navigate to the folder where you want to import the photos.

It works well for me.

Then the Aperture folders match what is out in finder (the geek in me approves of this) and the originals are available to be pulled into Lightroom or Photoshop without having to go into Aperture to export. This would be nice if you have a photo you don't care to work on in Aperture but do want to photoshop for whatever reason.

No it's not the "dead easy" way to do it. But it is nice for those who like having control over their photos and it keeps things orderly. Happy shooting!

Re: TSB36: Photo Critique Roundtable

I think that social network sites like Facebook and Flicker are not good for getting critiques. They are places to share your photographs. Some forums have serious critique as part of their purpose. Places like 500px have a very high standard. Again, I put photographs on Facebook and Flicker simply for friends and others to see. (PS - the gmail address will not get to me. Use ljlarson57@comcast.net.)

Re: My new Podcast “Rangefinder Moment” is out

Good luck with the new podcast Victor. I really enjoyed it. Being a what-a-be photographer I understand useful feedback and interested to hear what others think is good feed back. Feedback from a Pro is a lot different than feedback from a novice.

Re: TSB36: Photo Critique Roundtable

I enjoyed your roundtable discussion about critique very much. I particularly appreciated the portion about the "language of critique." I am an avid photographer and know what I like but have difficulty expressing it in words so offering any sort of meaningful critique of others photography is not something I am comfortable expressing at they point. I hope that you will continue the "language" discussion. I know that there are basic formulas for writing books and thank you notes. Perhaps you can help us with the basic formula for an appropriate photography critique.

Re: TSB36: Photo Critique Roundtable

Thanks to each of you for the lively conversation in this episode. I enjoy the roundtable format as I learn from the varying experience and points of view.
I enjoy reading the comments/critiques on the flickr group that make me think, learn as well as develop my own opinions and ideas about photography technique and vision.

Re: TSB35: Shooting with mobile devices with Jonathan Marks and Intro to plugins

Good point and thanks for posting this. Thought I'd post to tell any listeners going to Macworld 2012 that they shouldn't buy Topaz right now. I got an amazing deal on the Topaz suite at MW2010 and I assume they'll be at this next one. Download trials perhaps to get a flavour for them but definitely wait til Macworld to buy.

Re: TSB34: Jaime Ibarra shares his work and Eric Kim Seminar review – Screencast

Enjoyed enjoyed enjoyed.
